Nia's contemporary painting practice is a visual exploration of identity, and the hybridity that can be found within that. Using acrylic paint on canvas, they paint abstract landscapes that blur the boundary between the real and the imagined. As an artist with dual heritage, they are particularly interested in the intersection of cultures and the ways in which identity is shaped. These hybrid space that are created are formed from personal photographs and found images that are reassembled and reinterpreted through the act of painting. Through the abstract nature of the work, it retains echoes of representation and reflects a space where identities can intersect and blend.
